
A Certified Personal and Executive Coach who has served hundreds of clients in over 40 states and eight countries, Valorie Burton is founder of The Coaching and Positive Psychology (CAPP) Institute – a training and leadership development company. She is author of six books on personal development, including How Did I Get So Busy?, Listen to Your Life, and What’s Really Holding You Back?, all published by divisions of Random House. She is deeply committed to helping people be more resilient so they can thrive in life and work. She helps readers and audiences get unstuck, be more productive, and live with balance and purpose. Her newest book, Where Will You Go From Here?, helps readers move forward when life doesn’t go as planned.
She appears bi-weekly on CNN as the expert for the “Reclaim Your Career” segment and is a regular guest on HLN (Headline News). She has also appeared in and on NPR, the LA Times, Oprah Radio, Oprah Magazine, Essence, Success, Real Simple, Woman’s Day and local affiliates of every major network. Over the years, she has served as Editor-at-Large for Heart & Soul Magazine, and the resident Life Coach for Dallas-Fort Worth’s NBC affiliate, ABC Family Channel’s “Living the Life,” and two syndicated radio shows on ABC Radio Network. She has co-hosted two national television shows: The Potter’s Touch with T.D. Jakes and Aspiring Women, which won two regional Emmy nominations in 2010. She was appointed to the Governor's Commission for Women in Texas and served a two-year term (2001-2003). Prior to founding her company in 2001, Ms. Burton owned and managed a public relations and marketing firm, where she was a communications strategist for professional services firms and Fortune 500 companies. She was named one of the nation’s 30 “rising stars” in the industry by PR Week Magazine.
Ms. Burton has a master’s degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree in journalism from Florida A&M University. Her BA is from Florida State University. She is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and member of the International Coach Federation, National Speakers Association and the National Association of Black Journalists.
