About Valorie Burton as a Coach

Inspire Inc. clients all have a few things in common: they are ambitious, they embrace the opportunity to grow, their faith is important to them, and they are willing to invest in the fulfillment of their dreams.

My coaching practice is primarily comprised of accomplished women who are entrepreneurial professionals. Men are welcome, but 90% of my clients happen to be women. Some are veteran business owners while others are planning a transition to full time business ownership. Many of my clients are attorneys and other professionals. Some are corporate executives and managers who are ready to go to a new level personally and professionally. My practice is a blend of life and business coaching.

Using the principles of the pioneering field of positive psychology, my approach to coaching is based on the growing body of evidence about happiness, resilience, decision-making, strengths and success in today’s complex world. I combine this approach with solid spiritual principles that are as relevant today as they have ever been and an understanding of business and marketing that gives my clients a professional edge.

In addition to a master’s degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, I also have more than 200 hours of professional coach training and I am credentialed by the International Coach Federation as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC).

I help clients clarify their mission and vision, then create meaningful goals and practical steps to accomplish them. My coaching style is direct, truthful and warm. I help you understand your strengths and use them in such a way that your weaknesses become irrelevant. I will stretch you and challenge you, and we will have fun in the process!

What Is Coaching?

Coaching is a powerful conversation and support system that empowers you to experience your potential more quickly, easily and joyfully. It provides accountability, a sounding board, a place to brainstorm, overcome fears or challenges, and see opportunities anew. Coaching is an ongoing tool that empowers you to move from where you are now to where you want to be. You will uncover answers, make important decisions, clarify your purpose and vision, strategize and plan, and make the shifts you need to make to succeed at higher levels than ever before.

What Are the Primary Benefits of Coaching?

The primary benefits of coaching are being able to get clarity and make purposeful, strategic decisions, break through obstacles, and experience your potential more easily than you would without coaching. Coaching will help you:

  • Make a major transition
  • Solve problems
  • Identify and take advantage of opportunities
  • Increase business revenues and personal income
  • Reach previously-unattained goals
  • Design a plan of action
  • Make decisions
  • Negotiate more effectively
  • Communicate clearly and confidently, even in difficult situations

In addition to these areas, I coach and support you as you:

  • Implement a plan of action, work through the inevitable changes, fears and obstacles
  • Maintain a healthy balance between your personal and professional life
  • Keep looking ahead to take advantage of opportunities on the horizon
  • Experience your potential
  • Stay focused on your needs, values, and vision

How and When Do We Meet?

Our standard coaching package consists of sessions by telephone three times per month for approximately 50 minutes, for a minimum of three months. This has proven to be a very effective frequency and time frame for experiencing meaningful progress and results towards your goals. There are other options, however. You may choose to meet twice monthly for a full session or two to three times monthly for an accelerated-session (25 minutes).

Preferred Full Coaching Package:
The recommended coaching package, at least for your initial three-month coaching period, is the preferred full coaching package. Three sessions per month will help you gain the momentum and the frequency of coaching to make noticeable progress quickly and efficiently. This package is Valorie Burton’s flagship individual coaching program and consists of:

  • Three, 50-minute sessions per month
  • Unlimited laser coaching (5-10 minute in between calls)
  • Unlimited email coaching
  • Coaching investment of $595 per month ($550 monthly when you enroll for six months or more)

Coaching Alternatives
If our flagship coaching program does not accommodate your schedule, budget or other needs, you should consider these alternatives:

How Do I Schedule an Introductory Session at a Special $125 Rate?

An introductory, 50-minute session is available at a reduced rate so that you can ‘test drive’ the coaching experience. When you're ready to schedule your introductory session, here's what to do:

  • Process your payment for the session online via credit or debit card. If you prefer to do it by phone, you can call Leone Murray directly to process it at (410) 561-6041, ext. 84.
  • Leone Murray also schedules the coaching sessions. Once your request is processed, she will be in touch with you to schedule a day and time that works well for both of us.
  • Consider the agenda you’d like to set for our initial coaching session. I'll attach a coaching call agenda so that you can identify what you'd like to discuss during our call. Please return the agenda before our session.
  • Call in for your session! The instructions and toll-free number are on your agenda.

How Do I Schedule Ongoing Sessions?

After your introductory session, if you determine that coaching is right for you, you will receive a welcome e-package of information that details how our ongoing sessions will work. You will be scheduled for three, 50-minute sessions per month – generally on the same day and time for three weeks of the month. Your sessions will be scheduled one to two weeks prior to the start of the month, so that you can have them reserved on your calendar.

Do You Work Directly with Companies to Provide Coaching Services to Managers and Executives?

If you are a corporation seeking an executive coach for a specific employee or group of employees, please contact us to discuss your situation. We have worked with companies in the past to help employees enhance performance, productivity and communication skills, and welcome the opportunity to learn more about your scenario and how we might help.

Is There a Toll-Free Number for Clients

Coaching clients within the United States, Canada and the Caribbean may call our toll-free client number. Clients outside of these countries may request an adjustment to their coaching rate to account for international long-distance charges.

What is the Difference Between Coaching and Other "Helping Professions"?

Coaching vs. Therapy

Coaching focuses on where you are presently and where you are headed, with a goal of helping you gain clarity about your vision, eliminate obstacles to your success, accelerate the pace of personal growth and achieve results that empower you to live your best life – professionally and personally. We can focus on any area of your life: Relationships, Finances, Spiritual Life, Work and Business, or Physical Health and Environments. While coaching is forward-focused, counseling tends to deal more with past issues in which you may find yourself stuck and struggling. We may occasionally discuss something that has occurred in the past, for the purpose of clarifying the present, but your coaching will not focus on resolving the past. A simple rule of thumb to know whether you should be coaching or counseling: If your past is an issue, counseling is your best option. If your past is simply a fact (regardless of whether the circumstances were difficult or negative), you are probably ready for coaching. If it appears that there is an issue for which you may need counseling, I will suggest it. With the support of a counselor or therapist, some individuals choose to engage in coaching and counseling simultaneously, but with a focus on different areas of life for each service.

Coaching vs. Consulting

A coach focuses on helping you walk your unique path to success. As the client, you are responsible for the results you receive as a result of coaching. I help you discover how to become more of who you need to be to achieve those results and identify what you may need to do differently. A consultant takes responsibility for a specific project, acting as a specialist*, providing specific deliverables and knowledge. I believe in your ability to fully experience your potential and will provide a safe, consistent space for you to develop your potential.

* If my professional experience (in the areas of marketing, public relations, entrepreneurship and publishing) is of benefit to you personally and professionally, I will gladly share what I know.

Coaching vs. Mentoring

As a coach, I focus on the development of people in general, and the development of your unique path in particular. A mentor guides you towards a specific path of development. I am more interested in helping you onto to the unique and divinely-ordained path that is meant for you – which may be quite different than the path I have taken, even though the purpose of our paths may be very similar. My job as your coach is not to tell you what to do, but rather to help you uncover the answers that lie within you. Consider me a catalyst for your success.

Presently, no specific training is legally required in order for someone to refer to themselves as a “coach.” Those who are serious about their work as a professional coach have many educational programs from which to receive training from a variety of organizations. Visit www.coachfederation.org for a list of programs. In addition to a master's degree in Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, I have more than 200 hours of coach training and over 1,500 hours directly coaching clients. I also completed 20 hours of workshop-based training taught by the late Thomas Leonard, founder of the coaching profession.

I am a professional certified coach (PCC), credentialed by the International Coach Federation (ICF). The minimum qualifications for the PCC designation include 125 hours of professional coach training, 750 hours directly coaching clients, satisfactory completion of oral and written exams, mentoring by an experienced, ICF-credentialed coach and references from existing clients and credentialed coaches. The ICF accredits coach training programs, offers a rigorous credentialing process and serves coaches in 80 countries.

We accept debit and credit cards as payment for coaching sessions, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. You may pay online via this website or via phone by calling our office at (410) 561-6041, ext. 84. For efficiency purposes, debit and credit cards are the only form of payment we accept.

In addition to individual coaching, I offer group coaching and teleclasses, which provide a rich learning opportunity and the chance to connect with like-minded individuals. Also, depending on your objectives for coaching, some employers will pay for coaching services as an employee benefit. Check with your employer to see if such benefits are available for you.

If you are interested in becoming a coach, I recommend you begin by investing in professional coach training. Coaching is a professional discipline, much like financial planning, counseling or public relations. Do not attempt to coach professionally because you feel like you’ve “been coaching all of your life.” You may have the natural gift to coach, but develop that gift by learning coaching as a profession. Effective coaching is a learned set of skills that are used to support, empower and transform. Visit www.coachfederation.org for a list of accredited coach training programs. I also offer coaching teleclasses and groups for new and intermediate level coaches looking to hone their skills and grow their practices. Visit the teleclasses and groups section of this website for current offerings.

Put the subject line “Coaching session” in your email so your coaching inquiry can be easily identified!
