THIS WEEK'S TOPIC: 4 Simple Ways to Make Your Everyday Life Easier

Dear Friends,

This week, I'd like to share a newsletter that I wrote last August with some practical ideas I think you'll enjoy. How much easier would your day-to-day life be if your chores took less time and effort? With the increasing hectic pace of many lives, we hear the phrase "simplify your life" more often. Simplifying can be good, and I'd like to suggest something just as important - making your life easier. You know, those simple, but time-consuming tasks you have to do month after month or week after week - such as paying bills, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and running errands? Wouldn't it make your life easier to make those things less of burden on your time? I'd like to share a few ideas for saving time and getting things done more easily:

1. Create a printed shopping list.
Type a list of all of the items that you shop for on a regular basis and print out multiple copies. Keep copies in the kitchen, and take out a blank one each week. As you (or your family members) notice items you need, circle them. When it's time to go shopping, you'll be organized and less likely to miss items that end up making quick trips for later. Of course, if you order your groceries online and have them delivered, you could save even more time. Visit www.peapod.com to check out that option.

2. Automate your bill paying.
If you dislike sitting down to pay bills, make a decision to stop doing it! Set your accounts up to be automatically paid out of your checking account once per month. Most companies are glad to set up this service for you, or you can set it up automatically through your bank.

3. Prepare your meals once per week, or hire a personal chef to do it for you.
If you spend a couple of hours once each week preparing enough meals for the whole week, you'll not only save time, but find yourself under a lot less pressure throughout your week. If you don't have the time to do it yourself, consider hiring someone else to do it. Having your own personal cook may be much less expensive than you think. Imagine, someone to shop, cook, package and store your meals in the refrigerator or freezer - and even clean up the mess! Visit www.personalchef.com or www.hireachef.com to find one in your area.

4. Spend the first 20 - 30 minutes of your day exercising.
Most people claim that they don't have the time to exercise, but I have found that one of the easiest ways to get it done consistently is to get moving first thing in the morning. Before you go to bed, put your workout clothes and shoes right next to your alarm clock. Remind yourself before you drift off to sleep that the first thing you'll do when you get up is work out. When you wake up, slip on your work out gear and head out the door for a brisk walk, pop in your favorite workout tape, or find an open area in your house to do a few sets of your favorite exercises. You'll have more energy all day and feel refreshed as soon as you get moving!

My challenge to you this week:
Take one day to think about ways to make your life easier, then set up the "systems" to make it happen.

Journaling assignment:
What area of my life has become cumbersome? How could I simplify?

Until next time ...

Warm wishes,

Valorie
