Week 52:  What did you learn this year?

Dear Friend,

How was your year this year?  Was it filled with new successes and joyful experiences?  Did you have to face setbacks, difficulties or unexpected losses?  Did you finally do something you've been dreaming about?  If you're like me, you can answer "yes" to all three of these questions.   Whatever your year was like, one thing is for certain:  You're still here! You made it through and I bet there is some wisdom you can glean from 2009 that will help you as you move into 2010.  The last week of the year is a great time to reflect on the goldmine of wisdom a year can offer.

Whether punctuated by joy or pain, transition or stability, new beginnings or important milestones, every year offers you a message - and sometimes more than one.   I challenge you to carry the wisdom you've gained this year into next year.  Coach yourself with these questions:

1.       What was the highlight of your year?  Why was it so significant to you?

2.       What is the biggest challenge you overcame this year?   In what way(s) are you stronger because of it?  Who or what did you call on to help you through it?

3.       What brought you joy this year?  How could you incorporate more of it into your life in the New Year?

4.       What message is your life offering you as this year comes to a close?

5.       What are you most grateful for in 2009?  Why?

Asking yourself questions gives you an opportunity to stop and reflect before plunging into a new year.  In our fast-paced world, it can be too easy to race from one experience to the next - whether good or bad - without learning the lessons that are offered or picking up on the messages flashing before your eyes.  Before 2010 begins, listen to your life.  You'll be less likely to repeat the same mistake twice and more likely to notice the good in your life so you can create more of it!

Happy New Year,
