This Week's Topic: What's Your Dream?
Dear Friend,
Do you daydream about a new job? Do you reminisce about how you were going to
be a great novelist? Or do you wish you could go back to school and pursue a
new career? If you're like many people,
you once had a plan, but life took over and you sometimes wonder how you landed
where you are now. Just as importantly,
you might be wondering if and how you can get on track to creating the life you
really want. Coach yourself with these four questions to
get on track: 1.
Who
did you want to be before life got in the way? Before the job you have now, before
marriage or kids or bills, you probably had a vision of what your life could
be. What was it? Take out a piece of paper and write it down. Then ask, "Why did I want that?" Write that down, too. Knowing why you want what you want puts
purpose behind your dreams, making them more meaningful and authentic. 2.
Who do you want to be now? Time changes you - your wants and desires
may be different than they were before. So it's important to ask, "Are my true dreams the same or have they
changed? If they've changed, how?" 3.
What
is the most significant change that would turn you in the direction of your
dreams? Now it's time to do something. It's not too late to change careers, go back
to school, or move to the city you've always wanted to live in. The key is to get the ball rolling. Pick up the phone and make some calls, start
doing some research, or put yourself on a budget so you can save for the dream. Do something that will turn you in the right
direction. One step at a time, you can
get there. 4.
Who
can help you? Don't go it alone. Partner with a like-minded person who also
has big goals and dreams. Find someone
who's already "been there, done that," and glean from them. Ask for help when you don't know. Not only will it save time to not reinvent the
wheel, but it's more fun to collaborate on a goal.
My challenge to you: What small, but meaningful step can you take this week that will turn you in the direction of your dreams?
Journaling Assignment: What have you always wanted to do, but never got around to doing it? Is it time to finally get around to it?
Until next time...
Warm wishes,
